Research
Two peer-reviewed papers, a pilot study, and a growing body of field data from live sessions.
01The idea
Every visual in a Technorituals room is chosen for what it does to the body.
The work starts from embodied cognition: emotion and physiological state are built from the body. If rhythm, contrast, motion and color can represent a feeling, they can also act on the nervous system directly. Our research sets out to measure that effect, carefully and in real rooms.
02What we study
03The pilot study
In a controlled pilot, each participant went through six short visual conditions, 90 seconds each and in a different order for everyone, each one isolating a single visual parameter. Wearable sensors recorded heart rate, skin conductance, breathing, skin temperature and blood oxygen against a neutral screen, and after each condition participants rated calm, intensity and comfort from 0 to 10.
The results held. Structured visual stimuli produced measurable shifts in heart rate, skin conductance and breathing, distinct from the neutral baseline and consistent in direction across most participants. The study is published and peer-reviewed.
04In real rooms
Since June 2026 we have carried the same kind of sensor into live sessions in São Paulo, London and Berlin, in group sessions and one-on-one practice. A small wearable records skin temperature, movement, heart rhythm and skin conductance, so we can see how bodies respond to a real session, outside the lab.
In some cases we also recorded the same person with and without the visual, to compare the two.
05What the data shows so far
of participants showed skin warming over the session, a classic sign of the body shifting into rest.
ended the session physically stiller, or stayed still from start to finish.
showed calmer skin-conductance readings, with fewer or smaller stress reflexes.
Participants across four groups in São Paulo, London and Berlin, February 2025 to September 2026. The percentages above come from the live sessions and count only the participants whose signal could be read reliably.
